Self-Talk is a Major Cause of Stress

It is perhaps easy to relate to stress mainly with respect to the feelings of tension and pressure we feel inside. What is often overlooked, however, is that stress and even anxiety is often caused by negative 'self-talk'. What our mind says to us and how we evaluate the world has a lot to do with how we feel. If we think we are in the midst of a serious problem we will feel very differently than if we think everything is OK and we have no problems. What if we really are OK but our mind has made a mistake and has turned an inconsequential occurence into a problem or even worse, has anticipated a problem in the future that has little likely hood of becoming an actual problem? Well, then we are likely to feel bad but our reasons for feeling bad will have been 'made up' and have no basis in reality. That, however, does not stop us from feeling bad.
