Being a Better Supportive Co-parent

Co-parenting can be challenging but it's necessary to have an open and honest relationship in order for your child to thrive and be socially well adjusted. It's important to discuss your parenting goals together. Having this open communication will make it clear where you both stand on issues regarding your child. Honor their goals and decisions. When issues with your child come up try to respond in a way that honors both of your goals and decisions. When you are at a place where a major decision needs to be made, discuss it with your partner and be willing to compromise to reach a final decision. If your partner has made a decision that you are not in agreement with discuss it and try to come to an agreement on how to proceed. When your child sees that you and your partner can discuss issues and make decisions together they will understand the importance of how to compromise in a relationship and how to work with someone in order to achieve the results that they want in life.
