Pushing Hands
In pushing and receiving, the principles of T'ai Chi
are taken to a new dimension--interaction with another person, an outside
force. Before, when learning the form, the student only had to face gravity,
his own balance, learning how to move her own body, .... Now, an outside
force enters the picture. How can it be faced without resisting? without
tightening? without effort?
It is fascinating how each person manifests their individual style
of being in the world and relating to others in this exercise. Some don't
push and others move before they are pushed, without feeling the push,
its strength or direction. In the laborator y of push-hands lies an opportunity
to try alternatives.
This
is a demo of one of the Wu Style push-hands forms.
We are excited to include moving pictures as part of our
publication. We see the internet as advancing instruction
beyond books with animation, and beyond CD ROMs because of
the resposive interactivity of message boards, listservs,
etc. Coming soon will be an Online T'ai Chi Course, in which
we will be explaining, demonstrating and discussing T'ai
Chi in-depth.
Please allow time for the animation to load. After one
complete round, the speed will become more natural. |
