Musings with Mason
My grandson has been brought up using the principles of positive discipline that I used with my children. He has attended a positive discipline charter school since pre-school and now in kindergarten he is pretty much an expert on this parenting style.
Every week I have the privilege of picking Mason up after school and having a sleep over. Some of the most insightful and profound conversations I have ever had with a child (or an adult for that matter) happen in the car on the way to school the next day.
Now at 6, he is a great example of what children are truly capable of in manging their behavior and in demonstrating the process of learning how to be responsible, accountable, cooperative and a pleasure to be around.
Did I say he was perfect? No, he has his moments. He has struggled and sometimes the process of implementing positive discipline can seem less effective than a knee jerk punishment. But, when you stay the course this parenting style makes childhood a wondrous time for everyone.
So, from time to time i will be sharing our discussions, insightful moments and the just the joy of being in this little boys life.
