This method of parenting taught in these classes is democratic, respectful and practical. I decided to offer these parenting classes online as a way to support parents in learning a style of parenting based on natural and logical consequences instead of reward and punishment. And, parents need all the help they can get, as we see the impact of a generation of children growing up in daycare centers and a generation of parents who are stressed and feeling guilty about the state of their family life.

My children are grown now with families of their own and applying the same parenting approach that you will learn in these classes. I have a commitment to support other parents in having positive, healthy relationships with their children. These parenting classes are based on the work of psychologist Alfred Adler. There are many parenting books that translate his approach into easy to understand language. We use the STEP Systematic Training for Effective Parenting, and Positive Discipline series books for the online parenting classes. It is one thing to read a book but quite another to actually put into practice what you find there. There are plenty of parenting books available, and if reading them was all it took, we would not be facing the difficulties we are facing today with our young people. Information without action does not produce results. This parenting style is quite frankly the most useful information I ever put into practice regarding parenting my own children and supporting the parents in my counseling practice, and I want to empower you to do the same.

I have successfully raised 2 happy, responsible daughters and have moved beyond being a parent to becoming a mentor and friend to my children. This was no accident and by no means without difficulties. But, in the background my parenting style, which is the backbone of all of the online parenting classes, is responsible for the great relationships I enjoy with my children and grandchildren.

I found it was possible to raise happy, cooperative children without punishment using discipline that was based on respect for the child and myself.
